Lankets. A name that has moved round the village. According to Terry Sparrow 'Langet', an old word meaning a narrow strip of land, was applied to a narrow field or orchard on the south side of Brewers Lane between the High Street and Chapel Street. At the beginning of the twentieth century this stretch of road was then called Lanket Lane. Brewers Lane began east of Chapel Street. But when the late 20C housing estate also called The Lankets was built, the local council abolished the name Lanket Lane and made it part of Brewers Lane. This change generated some protest in the village.
