Badsey Mothers'
Union:
80th Birthday Party
On 16th June 2002 Badsey Mothers' Union celebrated their 80th Birthday with a service of thanksgiving and a party in Badsey Church. The church was full of many past and present members. We shared the celebrations with Offenham Branch who are 50 years old this year. members of both branches read from the bible, said the prayers and sang in the choir.
The Mothers' Union has over 750,000 members world wide, it was founded by Mary Sumner in 1876. Its purpose is to be specially concerned with all that preserves marriage and Christian family life. In practical terms this is achieved in many ways. The Diocese of Worcester Mothers' Union run projects in prisons, craft and listening schemes for prisoners on remand. They run a creche for during visiting times.
They support Womens Refuges and run a scheme that provide gowns for parents of stillborn babies. The Away From It All scheme provides holidays for families. Each branch is in contact with Mothers' Union members in Africa and workers in third world countries are funded by the Mothers Union to work with families to enable them to support themselves.
Members also work hard in parishes especially with families.
