Asparagus grown at Badsey - two rounds of 'gras'
The Vale of Evesham is best known for its fruit trees but around Badsey market gardening is more important. In the fields you will see rhubarb, beetroot, broad beans, flowers for cutting, along with many other crops. Its most celebrated crop is asparagus - or 'gras' as it is known locally. People travel from far and wide to experience its unique flavour. During the short asparagus season from mid May to mid June, you can buy freshly cut rounds of gras in the village or taste it in either of the village pubs.
This series of photographs takes you on a short tour around the village of Badsey in Worcestershire. The pictures were taken in 2000 and 2001 by Richard Phillips and Elizabeth Noyes.
